What is the difference between synthetic fragrance and essential oils?

Synthetic Fragrance contains ingredients that have been combined in a laboratory. Essential Oils only contain the plant essence. Many synthetic fragrances can be harmful because they contain the chemical phthalate. Phthalate is a known hormone disrupting chemical.

Are Perfumes and Essential Oils the same?

No. Modern perfumes are made from synthetic fragrances. The Lung Association states that ninety five percent of chemicals used in fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum. They also state that just one perfume can contain more than 500 chemicals. Essential oils are the concentrated, naturally extracted aromatic essences of various flowers, frutis, herbs and plants.

Why don't commercial bath and body products use essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance? 
 
Money. Essential oils are more expensive. It takes a large amount of plant matter to make up a small amount of essential oil.

What is the difference between mineral oil and nut and vegetable oils? 

Mineral oil is a refined petroleum product providing no nutrients to the skin. Petroleum products are non-renewable resources and many petroeum-based ingredients that have been used in consumer products are now know to be carcinogens. Nut and vegetable oils contain many vitamins and fatty acids that are absorbed by the skin.
